The Otaihanga Boating Club (OBC) is run by a dedicated group of locals from the Kapiti Coast. The Club is situated beside the Waikanae River and is a focal point for community groups and clubs. The clubrooms underwent an extensive restoration after the the 2005 flood, and are now the perfect backdrop for community groups and family celebrations.

The Otaihanga Boating Club was founded on land gifted to it by G.H Hadfield in 1953, and in the 1950’s, the river was swarming with Kawhai, Red Herring, Flounder and Whitebait. The river was easily accessible to boats and they would moor outside the 750sqm Clubhouse, which became a hub of the community hosting dances, weddings and community gatherings. In 2005 the building suffered huge damage in the floods, buckling under the weight of the water which flowed freely through Otaihanga. At this stage a group of dedicated locals and businesses joined forces and the Otaihanga Boat Club was reborn.
